Pasterical
I’m Sharon Langfeldt. Having recently graduated from seminary and been appointed to serve a church, I am now being called Reverend Sharon. That feels quite strange, and doesn’t roll easily off the tongue, but I trust that will be worked out as I take this next step in ministry.
I’m blogging and tweeting as “Pasterical”, a name suggested by a good friend who is one of the funniest people I know. I see ‘Pasterical’, the combination of pastor and hysterical, as wholly appropriate, given that the definition of ‘hysterical’ is (according to Dictionary.com) a combination of
– of, relating to, or characterized by hysteria.
– uncontrollably emotional.
– causing hysteria.
– causing unrestrained laughter; very funny
And…. Off we go!

I’m Donna Gayley Spearman. I’m a wife, a mother, a “gran” (to the adorable wee beastie named Evie), a Christian of the United Methodist persuasion, a singer, a seamstress, a traveler, and a very amateur writer. As I go through my days, living out the Gospel as best I’m able (and in Wesleyan fashion “working toward perfection”), I try to notice where “church” happens outside of church — in right relationships, in gracious behavior, in unexpected circumstances, and in everyday interactions. I try to embrace the paradoxes that keep life interesting and continually remind me that almost nothing is clearly “black and white.” And, I try to live a theology of capital-G Grace — a theology that says God loves me both despite of and because of my imperfections; God shares abundant grace, mercy and forgiveness with all people; and I am called to do likewise.
So, I’ll be writing about what I observe, where life gets messy, and the ways that I am able to find redemption in the midst of the beautiful messes that we are and that we make. Oh, yes … and through it all you’ll hear about my husband, my children (Emily and Colton), my friends, my travels, and, of course, that adorable wee beastie, Evie!
